I have a laptop, and I really don't like Vista. It's been two years and I've finally realised this.

I've looked at guides to reformat down to XP or up to 7.

But according to some of them I just can't plop a disc in like my desktop could.

I have to do a lot of things, but a lot of things came with a lot of guides with a lot of different stuff.

What's the best way to approach this?

(I tried putting the disc in, but it told me right away that I couldn't simply reformat into XP).

I'm really scared of making a piece of hardware ineffective. I know I have to look for drivers compatible with XP.

That's what I'm working on right now.

Any suggestions on how I should approach this?

Drew had a similar problem, if your problem is the same then it is because you have a SATA Harddrive in your laptop.
just find Windows XP for a SATA HD online and it should install fine.

Why not just put Windows & on it?

Pop the DVD in, boot from the DVD. Reformat the hdd and windows 7 will even find all your drivers.

Will that really work?

Because on the XP DVD it said that it didn't want to install because there was no parition.

Will I have to do that or will it ... DO ITS MAGIC?

I'm getting myself that cracked version as we speak.

it would be a better idea to go to windows 7 instead of downgrading to xp because there is more of a possibility you'll have driver problems.
the wizard should let you either format your hard drive, which will delete all your files, and make a fresh install of 7, or just upgrade from vista to 7 without losing anything. I'd recommend you back up everything and format the drive.
