You need two cables for that you will most likely have. You need a 4-pin power connector for power most likely and a data cable.
There are two types of data cables, SATA and some other old one which I will refer to as "ribbon cable". You need to figure out which one data cable...

This is a SATA data cable. This is newer technology for computers, if you have an old computer, doubt you have this.

This is the old fashioned 26-pin data "ribbon cable". I think you will probably have this.

This is a 4-pin power connector cable. Self explanatory.

Now that you have this information, you can figure out which of the data cables you have. You can do this by simply opening up your computer and looking. You probably won't need to buy cables as all computers come with extra 4-pin power connectors and data cables for adding an extra Hardrive or optical drive.

Once you get your hardware hooked up, you can go to your BIOS, set primary hardrives and secondary hardrives, but that won't be necessary until you get your hardrive hooked up. Plus, there are tons of guides out there teaching you how to partition and put your drives in different RAID arrays.

first of all.. u have to know what kind of HDD do u have...

k.. basically..  ur HDD could be sATA or IDE

SATA HDD

hdd to motherboard

power suply

not always the SATA's HDD can use both kinds of power suply cable... I mean.. not always the SATA hdd's have "the legacy ata power connection"

If ur HDD is SATA and uses only SATA power suply cable... And ur power suply doesnt has this kind of cables...

u will need to get an adaptor like this one Tongue

If ur HDD is IDE.. u need this..

hdd to motherboard

powersuply cable

so... lets start...

1.- Connect the SATA interface cable to the hard drive:

Connect the larger end of the WD SATA cable directly to the SATA interface connection
on the hard drive. The SATA connectors are keyed to ensure proper insertion.

2.- Connect the SATA interface cable to the SATA interface port:
<

3. Attach the power supply cable:

conect the power suply cable...

NOTE:  CONECT SERIAL ATA POWER CONNECTION   OR  LEGACY ATA POWER CONNECTION

DON NOT CONECT BOTH AT THE SAME THIME or the drive will malfunction.

4.- Mount and secure the hard drive:
Secure the Western Digital hard drive in an available 3.5-inch drive bay using the four
mounting screws provided.

thats for serial ATA...  if u have ide is the same shit.. with diferent cables...

thats it Tongue
